The Adventure Begins, or, What I'm All About, or, Start Here...
I’m all about…
Living. Loving. Hiking. Biking. Cooking. Eating. Parenting. Reading. Learning. Playing. Cosplaying. Listening. Composing. Writing. Camping. Travelling. Road-tripping. Gardening. Protesting. Teaching. Discovering. Experimenting. Creating. Crafting. Failing. Defying. Climbing. Unschooling. Kindness. Honesty. Authenticity. Making a difference. Giving. Receiving. Thanking. Laughing. Puns.
So, what you should probably know about me to understand the context of my adventures: I’m pretty liberal, but my inclination to think for myself, question everything, and distrust authority means I don’t find any ideology a perfect fit. I’m pretty spiritual, but my inclination to think for myself, question everything, and distrust authority means I haven’t found any theology to be a good fit either. I was raised conservative Christian, and have studied Catholicism, LDS, Buddhist, Taoist, Islamic, Unitarian, Satanic, and Pagan philosophies. While I haven’t found much use for religion, I do believe a spiritual practice is a key part of a complex, fulfilling life.
I’m a Libra, which means I am the most wise, fair, and beautiful of all the Astrological Signs. I am California born, New Mexico raised, Washington educated, and now I call Oregon my home-for-now. I’m a single mom of 4 wild children, aged from a teenager to a toddler. I un-school my oldest son, and try to get some creative learning into all our extracurricular family adventures. I love food, and try to grow and cook as much of it as possible. I’ve been an imperfect vegetarian for 6 years, and I also strive towards but fall short of living a zero waste lifestyle. I love clothing, and consider my sense of style to be pretty great. I am an artist by trade and training, I have a BFA and an MFA degree, and ART- the making of it, looking at it, thinking about it- is a part of my daily life. I love music, I love listening to it and going to concerts and making music.
I’ve road-tripped all over the U.S., and travelled to Ireland and England (the first steps to traveling all over the world).
I love being outdoors, and seize every opportunity to hike, bike, climb, or float in the beautiful Oregon wilderness. I am a passionate environmentalist and look for new ways every day to make my impact on this precious planet a little less awful. I am a nerd, I voraciously read sci-fi and fantasy novels, and always have a new cosplay in the works. My eclectic resume includes owning a comic book store, which was one hell of an adventure. I am a Feminist, and a bisexual. I’ve battled depression so long I consider it my oldest frenemy. I don’t do mornings, and I am addicted to tea and chocolate. I love learning how to do things myself, and take any opportunity to learn how to make, mend, or repair.
I am working towards a more simple life, and find it liberating to more often than not “do without”. I think that having limited means doesn’t dictate having a limited life, and one of my goals is to maximize every resource to have all the adventures. I would say that I am a cat person, but I can’t imagine life without my Adventure Dog.
I am unironically and unapologetically raising a hipster baby in the PNW. Also, there might be a llama. Follow the No Drama Llama on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/caesarthenodramallama/?hl=en
So what’s the plan, Stan?
So I plan on blogging recipes (but I’ll get straight to the point, no life stories just delicious instructions), tips on how to live a greener life, tools to help others on their own adventure (planning, budgeting, goal setting, mistakes I made so you don’t have to), reflections on motherhood and modern parenting, the occasional free verse poem, hikes and outdoor adventures in beautiful Oregon and my travels, book reviews, the perils of raising backyard chickens, the secrets of Salem, my art and studio practice, beautiful photos, and way too many bad puns.
I also have a priority to not skip over the bad stuff. No life is perfect, not every day is happy, not every adventure is a good one. I promise to be honest with you about the struggles, the failings, the mistakes. No airbrushing, no fiction. I strive to live every day in authenticity, and that includes this. I’m not in this for the followers or money (though that would be nice!).
Now you know me better than my own family.
I believe that small everyday actions can have huge, far-reaching reactions. I hope that to the people who discover and read this blog, they find inspiration, motivation, insight, or at the very least, some entertainment value. Thank you for getting the time to getting to know me!
